1. What comment_scanner Does

comment_scanner is a Chrome extension that scans publicly visible YouTube comments and uses AI to generate summaries, categorize feedback, and surface actionable insights for YouTube creators.

2. Data We Collect

When you use comment_scanner, we process the following data:

• YouTube comments — The publicly visible comments on the YouTube video page you choose to scan. We read these from the page you are viewing.
• Video metadata — The video URL and title of the page you scan, used to label your scan results.
• Account information — If you sign in (optional, for Pro features), we store your email address and authentication tokens via Google OAuth.
• Usage data — Scan count and date for enforcing free-tier daily limits, stored locally in your browser via Chrome's storage API.

We do not collect browsing history, personal messages, passwords, or any data from pages other than YouTube video pages you explicitly choose to scan.

3. How We Use Your Data

• AI analysis — Comments are sent to our backend server, which forwards them to OpenAI's API for summarization, categorization, and sentiment analysis. OpenAI processes this data according to their API data usage policy and does not use API inputs for training.
• Displaying results — Analysis results are returned to the extension and displayed to you.
• Free-tier limits — We track your daily scan count locally in your browser to enforce the 3-scans-per-day free-tier limit.

4. Data Storage and Retention

• Local storage — Scan count, preferences, and authentication tokens are stored in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API.
• Server-side — For Pro users, scan history is stored on our servers (hosted on Render and Supabase) for up to 30 days. Free-tier scans are not stored server-side.
• No long-term comment storage — YouTube comments are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored on our servers.

5. Third-Party Services

comment_scanner uses the following third-party services:

• OpenAI API — For AI-powered comment analysis. Comments are sent to OpenAI for processing. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
• Supabase — For user authentication and database storage (Pro users). See Supabase Privacy Policy.
• Google OAuth — For sign-in (optional). See Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is only shared with the third-party services listed above, solely for the purpose of providing the extension's functionality.

7. Your Rights

You can:

• Uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored data.
• Request deletion of your account and any server-side data by emailing us.
• Disable the extension without uninstalling to stop all data collection.

8. Security

We use HTTPS for all data transmission between the extension and our servers. Authentication tokens are stored securely in Chrome's built-in storage. We follow security best practices, but no system is 100% secure.

9. Children's Privacy

comment_scanner is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
